Pen and Sword had another successful wargaming event last month, testing out their brand new First World War kit at HQ!

The new bespoke board was designed and created by keen Great War historian and researcher, Paul Barnett, who also acted as referee on the night, alongside the commissioning editor of Pen & Sword's series of wargaming titles, Philip Sidnell. The board is not a replica of a historical battlefield, but has details influenced by Barnett's time spent on the Western Front, and as such the game objectives were not based on a specified battle, however the presence of Mk IV tanks and the attire of the troops of both sides date the board to around 1917. Staff members from the sales and marketing and production departments went head to head to thoroughly road test the new set, which also benefits from aircraft for both sides.
