Operation Jubilee19th August 1942
The Dieppe Raid, also known as Operation Jubilee, was an Allied attack during World War II on the German-occupied port of Dieppe on the northern coast of France. Over 6,000 infantrymen, predominantly Canadian, were supported by large Royal Navy and Royal Air Force contingents. The objective was to seize and hold a major port for a short period, both to prove it was possible and to gather intelligence from prisoners and captured materials while assessing the German responses. No major objectives of the raid were accomplished. A total of 3,623 of the 6,086 men who made it ashore were either killed, wounded, or captured (almost 60%). The air force failed to lure the Luftwaffe into open battle, and lost 96 aircraft.

70th anniversary commemoration in The National Memorial ArboretumOn Sunday, 19 August at 12 noon, two trees will be dedicated to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid of 18/19 August 1942, at the Dieppe Raid Memorial, Allied Special Forces Grove.

Airshow in NorthantsThe Sywell Airshow is back for 2012, once again supporting the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, with several favourites from previous shows returning along with some new faces - and some old friends. We have raised many thousands for the Air Ambulance in previous years and hope to continue with that record in 2012.
In addition to the flying display there will be aircraft on static display along with military and vintage vehicles, numerous trade stands, flight simulator, fairground rides and the Sywell Aviation Museum - the Sywell Airshow is the perfect family day out!
