Battle of Le Cateau

26th August 1914

Le Cateau was the second major action fought by the BEF in the Great War. His men exhausted after fighting at Mons and by the subsequent speedy retreat, Lieutenant-General Horace Smith-Dorrien (commanding II Corps) decided that he had to make a stand in the vicinity of Le Cateau. There his men took on elements of four German corps in an action that succeeded in giving the BEF a respite, but at considerable cost.

Supporting the BBC Children in Need Appeal 2012 and local charities, the Little Gransden Families Day Out Air & Vintage Vehicle Show will include over four hours of vintage and aerobatic flying displays, a vintage, veteran and classic vehicle rally plus numerous other attractions. We have been running our show since 1992 and have raised over £140,000 for charity over the years.

Gates open at 10:00, the event concludes at 17:30. Food including a barbecue and ice cream will be available along with refreshments including a bar. There are also plenty of toilets - including disabled toilets - on site. Free parking is provided in a field next to the airfield, just a short walk away.
