Debut author Angela Buckley joins us to fascinate you with insights about The Real Sherlock Holmes – Detective Jerome Caminada, whose methodologies mimicked Conan Doyle’s genius.
In the crime-infested rookeries of nineteenth century Manchester, Detective Jerome Caminada of the Manchester City Police tackled many criminals who were ‘mad, bad and dangerous to know’; from pickpockets and thieves to ruthless con artists and even cold blooded murderers.
A master of disguise and an expert in deduction, Jerome Caminada was a true Victorian supersleuth and a real-life Sherlock Holmes. The compelling story of this legendary detective bears all the hallmarks of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The Real Sherlock Holmes has been featured in The Sunday Telegraph, The Times and The Sunday Express. The Whitechapel Society says: “A highly enjoyable book that deserves a place on the shelves of every student of Victorian criminal history” while Dr Nick Barratt called it “a vibrant account of an extraordinary man, written with a verve that brings the nineteenth century to life in all its grimy detail”
Angela Buckley writes about social history, with a particular focus on Victorian crime, and is a regular contributor to a wide range of publications. A passionate family historian, she enjoys unearthing skeletons from her genealogical cupboard and exploring the seedy streets of the nineteenth century underworld. The Real Sherlock Holmes: The Hidden Story of Jerome Caminada is her first book.
