Caesar's civil war: Battle of Pharsalus

9th August 0048 BC

Although outnumbered, Julius Caesar decisively defeated Pompey at Pharsalus. Pompey fled to Egypt following the battle, but was assassinated there on the order of Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII.
