End of the Siege of Jerusalem
2nd October 1187The Siege of Jerusalem took place from 20th September to 2nd October 1187. It resulted in the recapture of Jerusalem by Saladin and the near total collapse of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. This provoked the Third Crusade by providing it with its principal goal — to return Jerusalem to Christendom a second time.
