Frederick II of Hohenstaufen was born
26th December 1194One of the most remarkable personalities of the Middle Ages, Frederick II of Hohenstaufen was born in 1194. His parents - the reigning Holy Roman Emperor and the heiress to the Kingdom of Sicily - belonged to two of the leading ruling families in medieval Europe. Known as "Stupor mundi" (the "wonder of the world") he was one of the most powerful Holy Roman Emperors of the Middle Ages. Throughout his life he was King of the Romans, King of Germany, King of Italy, and of Burgundy. At the age of three he was crowned King of Sicily. His other royal title was King of Jerusalem.
