HMS Belfast is closed until further notice after the gangway which takes visitors from the Embankment onto the former warship, which is permanently docked on the Thames, collapsed into the river yesterday.
Two men were taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries during the incident which took place at lunchtime on Tuesday. Around 170 people were evacuated from the vessel to London Bridge Pier with half an hour. The London Fire Brigade had a training exercise planned on the ship for Tuesday afternoon, but instead was involved with the rescue.
One of the three sections of the walkway had 'sheared' away from the rest of it after it had passed a safety test following seven weeks of work on it.
