Type 45 destroyer, HMS Dauntless is at the centre of the diplomatic row between Argentina and the UK in the run up to the 30th anniversary of the 1982 Falklands War.

Argentina is to make a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council after accusing Britain of militarizing the South Atlantic.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said the UK’s decision to send Portsmouth-based HMS Dauntless, one of its most modern navy warships, to the South Atlantic and to post the Duke of Cambridge on military duty in the region posed a risk to ‘international security’.

Prince William began a six-week posting in the region last week as an RAF search and rescue pilot. Both this and the deployment of Dauntless have been described as 'entirely routine'.

Commemorations marking the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War are planned to go ahead in April.
