The Ministry of Defence has announced that a soldier from 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (2 MERCIAN) was killed in Afghanistan yesterday.
The soldier, who has not yet been named, was serving with the Brigade Advisory Group and was working alongside an Afghan security forces patrol to disrupt insurgent activity in the Mirmandab region of Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province. He died after being caught in the blast from an improvised explosive device.
Further details will be released in due course. The family of the soldier have been informed of his death and have requested a period of grace.
