Australian military author, Murray Ewen, will visit Gosport over the weekend of 12/13 May to view Steam Pinnace 199 – the last surviving steam pinnace, which is currently being overhauled at The Maritime Workshop.

Many of these vessels took part in the 1915 Gallipoli landings, carrying troops and towing troop-filled barges under heavy fire. Murray Ewen is currently working on a book about about the 100th anniversary of the landings. He will take the opportunity to view the vessel and pick up technical knowledge from members of Group 199, who operate and maintain her on behalf of The National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth.

Ewen Murray is the author of Colour Patch: The Men of the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion 1940-1945. Honour Roll Dossiers, Nominal Roll Dossiers.
