The 2012 Poppy Appeal launches in Trafalgar Square, London, from 12 noon today - Wednesday, 24 October. This year's fundraising appeal target is £42 million.
A 90-minute concert is being held in Trafalgar Square, headlined by pop stars Pixie Lott and Alesha Dixon, both of whom have recently toured military bases and the Battle Back Centre in Lilleshall, and will be acting as brand ambassadors throughout the Appeal.
The concert will also be the debut performance of the 2012 Poppy Appeal Single Landlocked, which has been composed for the Appeal by multiple Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Tim Rice.
This evening. the launch events continue with a private viewing for the opening of The White Picture: The Hidden World of Women in Combat photography exhibit by Alison Baskerville, in South Bank's Oxo Gallery.
