Warfare in News

Congratulations to Warfare contributor Bryn Evans who raised $175 AUD at a charity auction in Sydney last week.

The Prince of Wales teaching hospital in Sydney held a 'Heartbreaker' event last Friday, where they raised funds for their Emergency Department to buy equipment including 2 new ECG machines through raffles and silent and open auctions.

Bryn Evans was a speaker on the night and donated a copy of his Second World War book, With the East Surreys in Tunisia, Sicily and Italy 1942-45 (Pen and Sword Books, 2012) for the auction. His speech, which highlighted the Australian connections within his book, sparked quite an interest, and in the open bidding auction, several bidders competed against one another and it was eventually sold for $175 AUD - approximately £105 GBP.

Bryn described the auction as 'quite remarkable'. He went on to say, 'I could not believe it as the bidding just kept on going, and just great for a worthy cause. I had donated a copy to a previous charity auction, when it went for $56 which I thought was pretty good. But $175 also meant that everyone there paid attention to it.'

Bryn has contributed several articles to Warfare, the latest being Allied air power lays the foundation for the conquest of Sicily - 70 years on.

With the East Surreys in Tunisia, Sicily and Italy 1942-45 is available as an eBook or hardback, directly from the publisher.

During these three years of bitter fighting they cleared the Germans from Tunisia, took part in Operation HUSKY, (the invasion of Sicily) and fought up through Italy as far as the River Po.
