Plans are under way to mark the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, 14 October 2016.

The battle led to the Norman conquest of England.

A committee has been set up to organize a series of events on the anniversary day in Battle, near Hastings. It is hoped that a member of the Royal family will attend on the day and help to commemorate the anniversary.

The programme of events is intended to include a memorial service for the Saxon and Normans who were killed during the battle, a military band and parade through Battle town centre, with a flag lowering ceremony at dusk.
