Today; Thursday, 15 May, marks the annual International Conscientious Objectors Day – raising awareness for those who refuse to participate in armed conflict.

International Conscientious Objectors Day is marked around the world on 15 May every year.

A brief ceremony – organized by the Peace Pledge Union – will be held at noon at the Commemorative Stone in Tavistock Square, London, during which the names of representatives are read out and a white flower place for each of the 50 names.

Karyn Burnham, author of a brand new book which reveals the untold stories of Conscientious Objectors during the First World War, The Courage of Cowards will be marking the day with an event at The Grove Bookshop, Ilkley tonight at 7pm.
