For one day only, two First World War aircraft are on display in Leeds City Centre as part of the region's Great War Centenary programme.

The aircraft – an RAF built example of a 1914 BE2c fighter (as flown by Major Lanoe Hawker VC DSO) and a recently restored replica 1917 PV8 Eastchurch Kitten – are on loan from the Yorkshire Air Museum near York.

Councillors and re-enactors gathered at the Victoria Gardens near Leeds Art Gallery earlier this morning. The aircraft will be fired up every hour to allow visitors to experience the roar of an engine which has not been hear for 100 years.
