Actor and war veteran Arnold Ridley was haunted by his experiences during World War One and World War Two. His son, Nicolas Ridley, has said that his father was one of the "brave young men who went over the top at the Battle of the Somme" who was injured three times and eventually suffered from shellshock, blackouts and haunting nightmares after enduring hand-to-hand combat in the Somme in 1916.
The new movie, Dad's Army from Universal Pictures, is premiering tonight in London's Leicester Square. "Being in Dad's Army gave [my dad] so much pleasure," said Nicolas. "It gave him his confidence back."
