Former prisoner of war Bill Speake, 90, from Talgarth, Powys, is to receive France's top accolade, the Legion d'honneur. The award is given to those for courage, bravery and valour, whether it be civilian or military. He will be presented with the award on Thursday (Jan 28) in Cardiff alongside 12 other Welshman who are also being honoured with the medal.
Mr Speake was only 18 when he reached the beaches of Normandy in 1944, and served with the South Wales Borderers Army Regiment.
