A Royal Navy Search and Rescue crew from HMS Gannet came to the aid of a newborn baby in Oban, Scotland, early on Friday morning despite atrocious weather conditions and three aborted landings.
The crew of four - Lieutenants Mike Paulet and Guy McCallum (both pilots), Lieutenant Alex Stevenson (observer) and Flight Sergeant Andy Dixon (aircrewman) - flew launched their Sea King Mark 5 helicopter at 2.45am, flying to Oban via Glasgow to pick up neonatal specialists and equipment.
After a dramatic journey, the crew were able to safely deliver 2 paediatric staff, a midwife, mum, dad and baby to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley at around 9.30am.
