The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has called FIFA's ban on England's football team wearing poppies on their kit during their friendly with Spain on Saturday 'outrageous'.

He said: 'Wearing a poppy is an act of huge respect and national pride. I hope Fifa will reconsider.'

FIFA rules state that teams may not wear shirts bearing political, religious or commercial messages. The world governing body have consented to holding a minute's silence before the game, and for poppies to be worn on the training kit on Friday at Wembley, and to stand for the traditional two minutes' silence marking Armistice Day.
