News Update: World football's ruling body, FIFA, bowed to mounting pressure yesterday over the 'Poppy Row'.
England's footballers will be permitted to display poppies on their kits – as long as they are printed on black armbands – during their friendly against Spain on Saturday at Wembley after Prince William and the Prime Minister intervened.
The Royal British Legion said it was ‘delighted that England players will be able to wear their poppy with pride’.
Wales and Scotland players will wear similar poppy armbands for their matches against Norway and Cyprus, respectively.
